Zettlr vs obsidian5/3/2023 Great to see this is a recurring useful pattern for others as well. Just yesterday I asked if anyone else was doing that since I'm starting to get real value out of doing so myself. I know this is old but I just stumbled onto it reading back in this sub and its interesting to see your comment on using titles the way Andy does. With that said, Obsidian is an excellent app. Though Obsidian is fully capable of rending Zettelkasten identifiers, you are correct, they have their own flavor for doing so, and I personally was hesitant to trust the built-in plug-in to do any conversions on my notes for fear of data loss. I fear I have gone off-course, so returning to the topic at hand. A valuable lesson learnt - the title (not identifier) is king! Abstracting the contents of the note into the title, so far, has eliminated all those issues. This was a problem that arose when my Zettelkasten exceeded a few hundred notes. Just because I had given a note an ‘address’ didn’t mean it was any easier to find without knowing it’s context. The reason behind this change, I found that using an identifier gave a false sense of security when it came to the location of the note for later rediscovery. I have also been relooking how I name my notes, recently moving away from the date-time identifier of a conventional Zettelksten and towards an abstraction title as advocated by Andy Matuschak and his Evergreen notes. However, Obsidian has increasingly become my editor or choice for sheer note inter-connectivity. The Archive is a great app! I was a beta tester during the early stages of development prior to release and too favor the simplicity and speed of the editor.
